Happy 29th Matt!

A letter to my brother has he and his family move to South Dakota (a loooong way from home) to follow his heart to minister to the Native Americans on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

December 20, 2012 – Happy 29th Birthday!

Matt -

Many stories that come to mind when I think of you - most usually end with stitches  staples and a trip to the emergency room.  I don’t always recall the HOWs of each incident but I do remember that no matter the severity of the injury you always got up with a big grin, and a new battle wound to show off, and excitement for the next time.  You never let fear stop you from experiencing new adventures and chasing after your dreams.

As you embark on these new adventures in your life I am sure that there will be times you will face fears and struggles, cause as “they” say nothing worthwhile is ever easy.   Remember when these “monsters” are staring you down to look inside yourself and find that little boy (who Jacob reminds me a lot of) with a big grin, a grand idea, a love for the unknown and follow your heart.

There are so many things I could say to you….. The older we all get the more grateful I become of this massive family we are all blessed to be a part of.  There is something about knowing that wherever we are in this great big world there are at least 11 (and counting) people that have our back through the good, the bad, and the ugly.  No matter what the world throws at us and what decisions we make in life we can always go “home” to find strength, unfiltered truth, and unconditional love.

And now for the mushy stuff…. These words seem inadequate… but know that I am proud of the boy you were, the man you are today, as well as the man you are destined to become, you inspire me to be follow my heart even if it is to a road less traveled and I love you.
